The granite towers and steel cables of the Brooklyn Bridge have become a New York City signature since the bridge's completion in 1883. At that time, it was the longest suspension bridge in the world. It spans over the East River connecting Manhattan with Brooklyn allowing people to cross it anyway they want - driving, biking or walking. Grand Central Station, also known as Grand Central Terminal, is one of the most beautiful stations in the world with its carefully designed details and unique clock art. Outside the station, visitors are welcomed by a 13 foot clock on the facade facing 42nd street containing the largest example of Tiffany glass. The clock is surrounded by sculptures of Minerva, Hercules and Mercury. Once inside, marvel at the cavernous Main Concourse which is in the center of Grand Central and usually packed with people. The most important piece there is the incredible four faced opal glass clock - a true masterpiece. Another treat for the visitors is the astronomical ceiling originally completed in 1912. The Chrysler Building is a well known icon of the city immediately recognizable by its beautiful crown. The building is in classic art deco style with elements inspired by Chrysler's automobiles - stainless steel eagle head hood ornaments, radiator caps and racing cars on the 31st floor. Today, the Chrysler Building is completely private and visitors can only admire it from the outside or in the lobby where they can enjoy the beautiful ceiling mural and art deco details.
The Empire State Building is a true architectural icon of New York. Its name comes from the nick name of the state of New York - The Empire State. This gorgeous building in Art Deco style was the tallest building in the world at the time of its completion and it held the number 1 spot for 40 years. The total height of the building is 1,454 feet (443m) including the antenna and it has 103 floors with observation decks on the 86th and 102nd floor.
